Hypnosis is extremely effective for relieving anxiety or phobia of going to the dentist. According to the journal for the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry, “hypnosis is a still underused but powerful non-pharmacological tool in dentistry”.
Most people can live with having some anxiety about going to the dentist. For those with dental phobia, however, the thought of a dental visit is terrifying. They may be so frightened, in fact, that they’ll do just about anything to avoid a dental appointment.
Dental anxiety and phobia are extremely common. High dental fear/anxiety affects approximately one in six Australian adults and about one in ten children, and the prevalence of dental anxiety in middle-aged women may be as high as one in three individuals.
Dental phobia affects about 5% of the Australian population, and at the extreme, a person with dental phobia may never see a dentist. Others may force themselves to go, but they may not sleep the night before. Some people feel sick — or, in some cases, actually get sick — while they’re in the waiting room. Avoidance of the dentist due to fear or phobia, can lead to more serious health problems, and affect a person’s family, social and work life.
What is the solution?
In most cases, dental anxiety can be relieved permanently in one session of hypnotherapy. Dental phobia can usually be relieved permanently in no more than three sessions. It is quick and effective. Clients who have had hypnotherapy for dental anxiety and phobia, find that they are calm, relaxed and free of worry for their next appointment. Avoidance of making appointments with the dentist becomes a thing of the past.
