It creates a change in routines which moves someone in a new direction, developing habits that involve listening to what their stomach is telling us as opposed to their eyes or head. These new habits mean they gain freedom from thinking about food all of the time, and eat consciously.
Cutting out our favourite foods is a bad idea. Cutting down how much we eat, is do-able and sustainable.
What is involved?
The Virtual Gastric Band is a four-session program usually run over four weeks. In each of those sessions, hypnosis is used to reinforce long-term behaviour changes including eating smaller amounts and exercising regularly.
The first session introduces the concept of a virtual gastric band. The aim of this is not to make you ‘think’ that you have a gastric band fitted; it is a tool to get you to respond to your instinctive signals, and stop eating when you feel comfortable.
You will listen to a self-hypnosis recoding daily for 28 days, and follow a set of guidelines to support and reinforce the effects of the sessions.
Your therapist will also create a personalized self-hypnosis recording for participants to keep for future use. Clients report an average weight loss of 3kg in the first week, with 0.5kg-1kg per week after that.
The Virtual Gastric Band is not a diet and does not involve deprivation. You can still eat the foods you like, and feel satisfied on smaller amounts. You will find fatty and sugary foods less appealing, and enjoy exercising and making healthier food choices.
